Bolshaya Dmitrovka
The street was named in honor of the city of Dmitrov, whence came a large part of its inhabitants – artisans. From 1937 to 1994 its name was Pushkinskaya, although the only thing that linked the street with the poet - the giant gambling debt. In one of the houses on this street he lost a huge amount of money to the sharper Ogon-Doganovsky. The debt was paid by him in installments till the end of his life.

1Column Hall of the House of UnionsHouse № 1
The building was reconstructed by M. Kazakov from private estate to the Noble Assembly – the place, where the balls and parties were held. From Christmas to Lent the young girls were visiting the place, looking for grooms. The rest of the year they spent with their parents in the village and could marry nobody except for their neighbor. The first ball of Tatiana Larina from Pushkin's "Eugene Onegin" took place here. And in 1924, the masses of people gathered here to say farewell to deceased Lenin.

2New ManezhHouse № 3
This building was designed for... the first in Moscow powerful power plant, capable of supplying electricity to the private consumers. The construction in 1897 of a large power plant on Raushskaya embankment made it possible to repurpose the building for Moscow bus fleet. In 1924 the first taxi company in Moscow was opened here.

3Georgievsky lane
The name of the lane was given due to the St. George convent, which was situated here. In 1812 during the Napoleon fires it was burned and the nuns had to leave the place. Today, one of the best mathematical schools in Moscow - school No. 179 is located here. As the State Duma has its offices in Georgievsky lane, a special car pass is needed now to enter it.

4New Stage of the Bolshoi TheatreHouse № 4
The new stage of the Bolshoi Theater is the most fashionable and the most modern theater project in Moscow. The construction lasted from 1995 to 2002. Several historic apartment buildings were demolished to built a new theatre.

5Solodovnikov TheaterHouse № 6
The estate was built for the father of the future wife of Suvorov. The commander often visited this house, and perhaps in this very building, he proposed to his beloved. In 1863, having passed through several owners, the estate eventually went to the millionaire Solodovnikov. He opened here the first in Moscow discount store, and then rebuilt it into the theatre. Chaliapin was singing in it and the first cinema show in Russia took place also here. Today it is the Operetta Theatre.

6House No. 7, building 1Bolshaya Dmitrovka
The house was built on the site of the several buildings from the complex of the Streshnevs' estate. The Nobel laureate, the Soviet writer Sholokhov stayed here in the house of his friend. Besides, the lost manuscript of the " Quiet Flows the Don" was found here in some years. One of the city's oldest bookstores is still working in this building.

7House No. 7, building 2Bolshaya Dmitrovka
This site was a former orchard of the Streshnevs' estate. It was never closed with gates and fences. One of the representatives of this family was the second wife of Mikhail Romanov, and another one - a secret counselor of the infant Tsar Ivan VI Antonovich. The boy was overthrown by Elizaveta and spent almost all his life in prison. Streshnev was a Chamberlain – one of three, living in the area, in whose honor the nearby lane was named Kamergersky.

8House No.7, building 4Bolshaya Dmitrovka
The main house of the Streshnevs' estate was rebuilt many times. It was just here, that Tolstoy wrote his "War and Peace". The Decembrist Musin-Pushkin lived here under police surveillance after the Northern Secret Society had been dispersed, and the future wife of Pushkin, Natalia Nikolaevna Goncharova used to buy hats in the merchant Sihler's hats shop.

9Urban Homestead of the MyasoedovsHouse № 8
In 1830 the estate was handed over to the Directorate of the Imperial Theatres. There was a drama school here, where a famous actor Shcepkin taught. The wings of the house were inhabited by the conductors and actors of the Bolshoi Theatre. Among them the legendary tenor Kozlovsky, whose female fans were on duty at the gate around the clock. And it was here, that Lev Tolstoy read his play to the actors of the Maly Theater. By the way, he was a descendant of the first owner of the Myasoedovs' estate.

10Kamergersky lane
This pedestrian street is closely connected with the theatrical and literary circles of Moscow. Here is the building of the Moscow Art Theatre. Next to it is the " residential building of the cooperative partnership "Peasant newspaper", in which more than 40 writers and poets had settled. Here was the artistic cafe the "Tenth Muse", where Yesenin invited Isadora Duncan and Mayakovsky brought Lilya Brik with her husband.

11Archive of Political HistoryHouse № 15
The Russian State Archive of Socio-political History was created in 1999. There is a huge number of documents, both of the Russian and the Western history here. Perhaps, in its depth the secrets of Marx, Engels, Zorge and even Napoleon are stored.

12Musical Theatre of Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-DanchenkoHouse № 15
Stanislavsky was dreaming about creation of his own theater for a long time, but shortly after the decision was made, he died. The theater was a platform for avant-garde operas. Here the operas by Kabalevsky and Khrennikov were staged. This theater is the only one in Moscow, which was not evacuated and continued to put the plays during the Great Patriotic War.

13Apartment House of Princess LievenHouse № 23
From 1890 to 1909, there was here the Atelier of Nadezhda Lamanova-Kayutova, the famous Russian and later Soviet fashion and theatre costume designer. All the fashion trendsetters of Moscow, including Olga Knipper-Chekhova, ordered their outfits here. The famous writer often accompanied his wife.

14The Council of the FederationHouse № 26
The complex of buildings, occupied now by the Council of the Federation RF, was built in 1983. The left wing of the building was the residence of "Gosstroy", the right one - of "Goskomarhitectura". And earlier, in 1924-1931, the Lenin Museum was located here, although the building did not have any relation to Lenin.

15Printing House of the Moscow UniversityHouse № 34
The building was constructed specially for the printing house. The first floor is a vast hall with 7 pillars, that support the ceiling vaults in the center of it. On the ground floor was a bookshop, which was popular among the Moscow students. Books were printed on the second floor. They say, that the noise was so strong, that the permanent staff was completely deaf.
